"WITH THE OBJECT OF IMPROVING THE CONDITIONS OF LIFE THE MEMORIAL HALL IS GIVEN IN TRUST TO THE INHABITANTS OF PICKERING"
These words are inscribed across the front of Pickering's Memorial Hall, and thus the Memorial Hall is run and managed for the benefit of the people of Pickering by a charitable trust known as The Pickering War Memorial Charitable Trust. The trust operates under the direction of the Charity Commissioners for England and Wales and its formal purpose is "the provision and maintenance of a village hall and war memorial for the use of the inhabitants of the Parish of Pickering ........ without distinction of political, religious or other opinions, including use for meetings, lectures and classes, and for other forms of recreation and leisure-time occupation, with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants."
Trustees and the Hall's Team
A number of volunteers, nominated by the main users and groups with an interest in the hall and elected or confirmed at the Trust's annual general meeting each June, form the Trustees. The Trustees meet at least four times a year to give direction to a smaller Management Group, who look after the running of the hall, its maintenance, improvements and so on. The Trust contracts a Hall Manager, who handles all the details of day-to-day bookings, interaction with those using the hall and so on. Here is the current team.........................................
